Tips for Getting Started with U-GRUVE AR

For iOS and Android

So you’re all set to head out for your first interactive sound walk with U-GRUVE AR. That’s great! But before you head out the door, there are a few steps to take in preparation, to ensure that your experience on-site goes smoothly. Follow these steps, and you’ll be good-to-go! First, regardless of what platform you are on, you should DOWNLOAD THE APP WHILE CONNECTED TO WIFI. You can scan the QR code below (works for both iOS and Android) or click on the relevant button:
Download on the App Store  Get it on Google Play

iOS Users

  • Make sure Location Services is turned on and that you have a decent signal.
  • Disable Screen Lock. Go to Settings>Display>Screen Lock and set it to “Never”. If the screen does timeout, the music will stop, but once re-engaged, it will pick right back up again — no need to restart the app, though it may take a second or two for GPS to recalibrate.
  • Make sure the app’s “Cellular” option is turned on (in Settings)
  • Make sure the ringer switch is not set to vibrate, or you won’t be able to hear anything (for iOS, not sure about Android yet)
  • After starting the app, it may take from five to ten minutes to establish a reliable connection with the GPS satellite, so give yourself some time. You may even want to start it shortly before arriving at your destination.
  • Again, it is best to download the app while connected to WiFi. And as some outdoor locations offer free WiFi, it’s also a good idea to start the track you want to hear while on WiFi as well, as the audio will download faster.
  • Make sure your battery is fully charged, and consider bringing a portable charger
  • If for some reason a screen becomes stuck or non-responsive, just close the app completely and restart (double-tap the home button, swipe the app screen away, and re-start the app)

Android Users

  • After you download the app, and BEFORE you launch it for the first time, YOU MUST TURN ON LOCATION PERMISSIONS. This used to (and should) happen automatically, but for whatever reason, is not happening now. Just go to Settings>Apps>U-GRUVE AR>Permissions, and turn on Location Permissions
  • Make sure Location Services is turned on and that you have a decent signal.
  • Disable Screen Timeout. Go to Settings>Display>Screen Timeout and set it to “10 minutes” (the highest setting available). If the screen does timeout, the music will stop, but once re-engaged, it will pick right back up again — no need to restart the app, though it may take a second or two for GPS to recalibrate.
